Joan Eckman Fine Art
This painting - “Wild Morning Run” was accepted into a juried show and received an award at the CWAE (Central Washington Artist Exhibition) at the Larson Gallery In Yakima, Washington..
Painting the Pacific Northwest wilderness and rural landscape. Joan is a representational artist. She enjoys getting outside to enjoy nature and do some plein air painting, but most of her finished work is done in the studio. Joan uses prose and poetry as part of her creative process.
What gallery curators say about Joan's work:
Mathew Lennon, curator of Clymer Gallery, Ellensburg, WA
"The natural world is as beautiful and wild as we can imagine. Joan's work, her colors and intricate brush strokes give testimony to her dedication to the subject matter. "In work like "Storm Watch", she displays a talent for the nuances of the natural world." Lennon says. "Each work speaks to her devotion to making of a painting and her enthusiasm for the wonders of the outdoors."
Carol Henderson, Events Coordinator of Wenaha Gallery, Dayton, WA
"An integral part of Eckman's creative process involves the use of prose and poetry to help her visualize what she is trying to say with any one artwork...and the use of transparent glazes, color and texture. Sometimes, she carries a backpack of supplies and sets up her easel in the middle of the wilderness, where she paints plein air. Other times, she simply hikes, taking photos along the way to paint in her studio later. However, Joan Eckman captures the wild and remote landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, she does it well, inviting the viewer into a place that is serene, still, and far from the crowds."
